چکیده
Of the various waste and side streams created in a kraft pulp mill, biological sludges from wastewater treatment plant are some of most problematic to handle. Incineration is becoming common solution as landfilling no longer permitted by legislation many countries, but this also due high moisture content, poor drying characteristics, ash content solids. This study evaluates technical potential mild hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) at 160 °C for 3 h improve energy efficiency on-site incineration biosludge handling method. HTC transforms wet organic substrates into hydrophobic carbonaceous material (hydrochar). The heating value elemental composition both sludge hydrochar product were analyzed. Based on this, model developed earlier was adjusted feedstock, process integration modelling performed evaluate performance impact power heat generation mill. results indicate that if alternative combustion boiler, pre-treatment could allow significant increase generation. If combusted recovery practice often avoided order not introduce non-process elements chemical cycle sometimes necessary to, e.g., absence much smaller obtained. smallest freed evaporator capacity cannot be utilized increasing firing liquor dry solids content.

متن کاملEnergy Recovery Efficiency of Poultry Slaughterhouse Sludge Cake by Hydrothermal Carbonization
Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is a promising technology used for bioenergy conversion from bio-wastes such as sewage sludge, livestock manure, and food waste. To determine the optimum HTC reaction temperature in maximizing the gross energy recovery efficiency of poultry slaughterhouse sludge cake, a pilot-scale HTC reactor was designed and operated under reaction temperatures of 170, 180, 19...
متن کاملA multi-criteria decision analysis of management alternatives for anaerobically digested kraft pulp mill sludge
The Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) procedure was used to compare waste management options for kraft pulp mill sludge following its anaerobic digestion. Anaerobic digestion of sludge is advantageous because it produces biogas that may be used to generate electricity, heat and biofuels. However, adequate management of the digested sludge is essential. Landfill disposal is a non-sustainab...
متن کاملKraft pulp mill effluent treated by activated sludge and aerated lagoon genotoxicity assess
Organic compounds present in the bleached kraft pulp mill (BKPM) effluents may be reduced by biological treatment like: activated sludge (AS) or aerated lagoon (AL). However, after biological treatment, BKPM effluent still contains specific compounds. Some of them have been related with chronic effects (DNA damage, reproductive and physiological) observed on fishes exposed to BKPM effluents. Th...
متن کاملEfficient Low Temperature Hydrothermal Carbonization of Chinese Reed for Biochar with High Energy Density
Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC), as an environmental friendly process, presents wide potential applicability for converting biomass to biochar with high energy density. Reed, a major energy crop, was converted by a HTC process in a batch reactor at 200–280 ◦C for 0.5 to 4 h. Biochar mass yield changed from 66.7% to 19.2% and high heating value (HHV) from 20.0 kJ/g to 28.3 kJ/g, respectively, b...
